The Lore

From a great idea to a real working prototype

At Imperial Publishing, we've spent years working with tabletop gamers, collectors, retailers, and publishers through our Sleeve Kings and Mayday Games brands.

We know that sleeving cards is only part of protecting a collection.

Once you've invested time and money into acquiring and sleeving hundreds or thousands of cards, you need a practical way to organize and transport them.

That's what inspired the Ultimate TCG Travel Case.

OUR FIRST PROTOTYPE

We began with a much larger rolling case, featuring five long storage compartments, protective foam, and a clever table-conversion system.

The initial reaction was extremely encouraging.

Players loved the idea of having a substantial card collection protected in a sturdy case that could transform into its own table.

But there was a problem.

It was too large for convenient airline carry-on travel.

We wanted something that players could take to conventions and tournaments without needing to check their valuable collections as baggage.

BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD

Working closely with our manufacturing partner, Height Industry in China, we began redesigning the case around a much more compact footprint.

This proved surprisingly challenging.

The wheels, handles, locking hardware, removable table legs, and protective interior all needed to fit within a limited amount of space.

Every centimeter mattered.

We evaluated different storage configurations, redesigned the leg-storage arrangement, and refined the protective foam to maximize usable card-storage space.

A SMARTER, MORE COMPACT DESIGN

The resulting prototype incorporates three long, foam-lined card-storage channels with six removable dividers.

We replaced the conventional telescoping luggage handle with a simpler, detachable pulling strap and fixed carrying handles.

We also developed a removable spinner-wheel system, allowing users to detach the wheels to reduce the case's dimensions when packing or storing it.

The table-conversion feature remained central to the design, with four removable telescoping legs that can be stored inside the case.

A compact, rugged, highly functional travel case that combines storage, transportation, and convenient access to thousands of sleeved cards.
