This is the bag we wanted. So we built it!

When you started playing, you packed one deck and maybe a playmat. Now your loadout is almost a dozen decks, a playmat or two, dice, tokens, a Commander Essentials Kit, and a tablet.

Packing it all is hard enough. Finding anything is worse. The bottom of your bag is where decks go to hide, and everything else piles on top. Right now, your playmat needs its own tube, one more thing to carry and one more thing to forget. Between rounds, you unpack half the bag just to find your deck. And once you’re on the subway or a packed convention floor, you start wondering who’s standing behind you and what they can reach.

What it carries

We started with a list of what TCG players pack, then designed a spot for each thing.

Every pocket in the Stoneforge started as a question: where does this go, and how fast can I get to it? We built that list from our own game nights and convention trips, then designed the bag to match it. If something is in your bag at game night, it has a spot here.

Security Done Right

A bag full of decks can be worth 20x more than the bag. Most gaming bags skip that part. Security only counts if you’ll actually use it, so the Stoneforge is built to lock down when you need it and get out of your way when you don’t.

• High security mode. A removable, clip-on security shell covers most of the bag's openings. Clip it on for the subway and the convention floor, take it off when you sit down at your table.
• Back-access main compartment. The main deck box compartment opens from the back panel, so it stays against your body instead of facing the crowd behind you.
• Lockable side door. The quick-access side door opens to the same deck box compartment, and its zippers have lock loops, like luggage zippers, so you can add your own mini lock when you want extra peace of mind. The back panel sits against you, so it doesn’t need one. Lock not included.
• Hidden GPS tracker slot. A concealed compartment sized for a tracker like an AirTag or Samsung SmartTag, with no obvious external pocket for anyone to spot. Tracker not included.

Harder to get into. Easy to use. Trackable if it ever goes missing.

Pack it. Sort your decks into the adjustable main compartment. Two vertical and four horizontal hard dividers let you set it up for your own deck boxes. Slide your playmat into its own compartment. 

Carry it. Clip on the removable security shell for the train ride or a packed show floor. The back panel of the main compartment sits against you, not facing the crowd, and the side door has lock loops for your own mini lock.

Play from it. At the table, take the shell off. Reach into the side opening to pull the deck you're playing without taking the bag off. A small slot holds a life pad.

Note: Color selection will happen AFTER the Kickstarter campaign is complete, so you don't need to worry about choosing until later. 

Disclaimer: There is a minimum quantity of 200 per color for production, so if any color (even if unlocked) doesn't hit the minimum we will not be able to offer that color. Backers will have to choose a different color at survey time.

A few things we want you to know up front.

We'd rather you back the Stoneforge knowing exactly what you're getting. Here's the honest rundown.

3x3 (9 Pocket) Card Binders. They DO NOT fit inside the Stoneforge backpack. Due to our unique design to enable maximum organization and security, we were unable to accomodate for a large card binder. However, the 9 Pocket binder does fit in the front large pocket, but it sticks out 1/3 of the way. Alternatively, there is a perfect spot for a 2x2 (4 Pocket) Card binder in the front of the Stoneforge. You can watch this video to see. 

Water-resistant, not waterproof. The main fabric is waterproof, a 900D polyester with a PVC coating, but a bag is more than its fabric. The zippers and other openings let water in, so the Stoneforge as a whole is water-resistant, not waterproof. It handles rain and spills on the walk to game night. The security shell is the same coated 900D polyester and covers most of the openings, so it adds extra protection when it’s clipped on. It isn’t built to be submerged, so keep it out of the pool.

Security that helps, not a guarantee. The Stoneforge is harder to get into and easier to find if it goes missing, but no bag can promise it can't be stolen. The side pocket zippers have lock loops, like luggage zippers. Mini luggage lock not included.

Capacity depends on your deck boxes. The Stoneforge holds up to 15 deck boxes: 9 in the main compartment and 6 in the upper compartment. Your exact fit depends on the deck boxes you use. We tested with Ultra Pro 100+ Eclipse Deck Boxes. You can watch the video here.

Tablet and laptop fit. The padded pocket fits up to a full-size iPad or a thin 14-inch laptop. Thicker or larger laptops may not fit.

Playmats. The built-in compartment is sized for standard 24 x 14" playmats, up to two. 

Details may still change. We're still finalizing some minor details and some specs before production. These will be shared to backers as decided. 

Shipping

Shipping and taxes will be charged after the Kickstarter campaign has completed, below is an estimate of the shipping charges. Local pickup is available for Edmonton, AB, Canada

NOTE: At this time we are only shipping to the countries specified above. 

Timeline

NOTE: For quality control and review, we will be producing these in batches of 2500 (subject to change). We will be fulfilling the pledges (orders) in the the order we receive them. So the sooner you pledge the sooner you get your Stoneforge Backpack!

Our Story

Nerd Gear Gaming Inc. was born from a deep-seated passion to create extraordinary gear for Magic: The Gathering and other TCG enthusiasts. What began as a simple hobby, a mere spark of interest, grew into a significant side project, and now is a thriving business with a great team behind it.

I first started playing Magic: the Gathering when I was a teenager, during the Ice Age and Mirage time frame. It only lasted a couple years back then, but about 9 years ago I bought a Duel Deck to teach my kids how to play. Since that day, Magic has been a big part of my life! My kids and I play many formats casually and sometimes competitively.

In Feb 2024 I launched our first Kickstarter campaign for the Commander Essentials Kit. It was a huge success, we funded within 25 mins and were fully funded within a few hours. The campaign ended with over 1800 backers and 3600 units pledged. We completed that Kickstart on schedule and continue to sell thousands per year. 

Then in July 2024 I Launched our second Kickstarter campaign for the Playmat Sanctuary, which was even more successful than our first. The campaign ended with over 4200 backers and over 7500 units pledged. We also fulfilled that campaign on schedule and continue to sell thousands per year. 

We hope The Stoneforge TCG Backpack campaign will be even more successful than our first two. Initial feedback and interest has us hopeful!
