Steamboat Arcana 1928 & Gaucho's Arcana 1928 Tarot Decks

On January 1, 2024, the original black-and-white versions of Steamboat Willie and The Gallopin’ Gaucho officially entered the public domain—opening the door to new artistic interpretations of some of the most iconic characters in early animation history.

That moment sparked the creation of Steamboat Arcana 1928 and The Gaucho’s Arcana 1928, two fully illustrated tarot decks that blend classic tarot symbolism with the expressive visual style of late-1920s animation. Working with illustrators Lisa Kubja and Daniela Montesi, we designed each card to capture the charm, whimsy, and storytelling of early animation, all reinterpreted through the lens of tarot.

Each deck is printed on premium 330 GSM black-core cardstock with a matte micro-linen finish, giving the cards a smooth shuffle and a beautifully vintage look. The standard decks come housed in luxury magnetic flip boxes, creating a premium unboxing experience that feels worthy of a collector’s piece.
