Early in 2023, I found myself really drawn to making tabletop maps that would be great for games like Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, and much more. I had originally thought that I would only be making one or two maps a month, but nowadays, we've elevated our production in a lot of ways, including how many maps we're able to produce.
Since then, we've run two Kickstarter campaigns. We've delivered over 125 maps to people (plus a slew of variants) already, and we're looking to keep that going.
This year, we're keeping with the momentum. We have another 50 maps ready to go at the base level, with around another 150 variants. But we have bonus maps for day one backers, additional maps prepared for our stretch goals, and 125 maps available for people who may have missed the last two campaigns. We're going all out, and we're excited to invite you along for the ride.
- You will receive at least 50 digital full color maps, in both gridded and gridless versions. Each of these will be presented in 4k resolution, and are great for use in online platforms.
- Variant versions of each of these maps. Every map has at least two variants, and many have additional ones.
- A mix of variety and connectivity. Some of our maps are one-offs, and some are able to connect to one another. Our biggest zone is a massive nine-map collection that reimagines one of the Ren Faires that my wife and I vend at.
- Every map gets a point of interest document on the base level. Every time I make a map, or get one from one of our partners, I work to make sure that game masters can build some great ideas for their scenarios using each of our maps.
Over the past year, we've continued to expand our map offerings. Some of them are brand new—drawing from either the Tellest universe, or just something that I thought of on the fly—and some of them are continuations of areas that we've been to before. I love expanding on the zones that I've already created. It makes things feel that much richer and more immersive. Here are a few of the new maps that we've worked on:
Just about every one of our maps are sized to be 40 tiles wide and 20 tiles tall. This allows us to print on high-quality polyester gaming pads, which we're offering as add-ons for this campaign, if you prefer some of your sessions to be live and in person!
Just like last time, we're starting with a map that shows where we're headed. This map will be a bonus one that all backers get as a thank you, as well, and is not included in the base 50. We figure there's no sense in being secretive about things, so we've blown back the fog right off the bat.
Whereas the first map was themed after campsites, and the second map was themed after worksites, this latest map is themed after gravesites, and of course, you'll get this map as part of the set. It connects with the other two maps as well!
You'll be able to follow our progress above in the Stretch Goal map by keeping an eye on the blue shield. That represents where we're at with things, so fingers crossed we can continue to move it along. As you can see, we're aiming for 100 maps to get to everyone here. That would mean that we would have over 230 maps total—just ten cents or less per map at that point (plus all the variants).
We've been close to unlocking an additional stretch goal map before as well, and I'm hoping we can finally do that here with our third Kickstarter.
50 Maps of Tellest: Volume I bonus maps & 50 Maps of Tellest: Volume II bonus maps - $5
If you didn't get a chance to be one of our day one backers in either of the last two Kickstarters, we're making it exceptionally easy to get the maps you missed. We have nineteen maps across those two sets, which include, from our first set:
Four that make up a huge island tavern, two that make up the house of none other than Santa Claus himself, a chessboard in the woods, the entrance to a shipwreck city (inspired by a famous adventure game), plus a mine with a few turntables.
The Day One Backer bonuses from our second Kickstarter are these:
Four maps make up the "Towersphere Practice Pitch". TowerSphere is a game that I introduced in the Tellest universe that sort of combines football and gladiatorial combat (and a little bit of croquet). I wanted a large map that could represent the normal size of a pitch, but in my mind, these were more for c-list players, not the ones that would be traveling from city to city in these big arena matches.
We also have 2 two-part maps, one being the Minotaur's Maze, and one being Dragonhenge.
Finally, we have 2 one-offs, Covered Bridge, and Statuary Garden.
Physical Version of a Tellest Map - $32, plus shipping
Note: You must pledge at the $40 level to unlock additional physical maps as add-ons.
Our print partner allows us to get our maps in bulk, so we're able to pass along some attractive discounts to you. You can select any of our maps from our catalog, and we will get them to you as soon as we're able.
These maps are printed on high quality polyester, measuring around 36" x 18". It's not a true 1" grid, but it's so close, there a good chance that you won't notice the difference.
Check out our FAQ to find out how to choose your maps if you pledge at the $40 level.
100 Fantasy Writing Prompts - $5 / $10
Need ideas to get your campaign going? I developed these writing prompts to help creators of all types tell their stories. You can use these idea seeds to come up with great scenarios that will leave lasting impressions on your party. You can get an ebook copy for $5, or a paperback for $10!
How to Be a Wizard Children's Book (Softcover) - $10
My wife Rhianna and I wrote a children's book that we managed to sneak out at the end of last year, and now we're ready to get it out even further. It's the perfect gift for the little ones in your life who you want to introduce to fantasy, and we'll work on giving you a better look at this book as the campaign goes on.
Tellest Prose Megapack (Digital Only) - $20
Get every one of our Tellest stories that have been published, in digital format, at the lowest collective price we've ever offered them. You'll get several of the books as part of their respective collections, but in total, you'll have 21 new books to warm a spot on your virtual bookshelf.
Tellest Visions Artbook - $30
While these 50 maps are meant to be able to be used in any setting, whether you're playing in the Forgotten Realms, or on Golarion, a lot of it has of course been inspired by the fantasy universe that me and my team build, Tellest. This artbook celebrates the work of our fantastic artist collaborations over the years, it looks great on a coffee table, and it's on discount if you get it as part of this Kickstarter!
Map Book Prototype - $50
I love it when maps are easily accessible. While our neoprene maps are incredibly wieldy, thanks to being able to roll them up, lay them flat, hang them from a hanger, etc., I had an idea for something even cooler. These map books contain 30 11" x 17" maps all placed within the same biome. If you want a giant book of forest maps, this is a fantastic deal (they go super fast when I sell them at ren faires). As you can see below, you can also buy more than one of them and keep them side by side to give you a bigger play area. Or you can pull them out of the portfolio book—I put these together by hand, and you can luckily take it out that way as well. The pockets are dry-erase compatible too, so there's a lot of functionality here!
Behind Tellest is a team of dedicated fantasy fans and creators. I took a sort of director role this time around, because we've partnered with some exceptionally talented creators.
We always want to ensure that this shared fantasy world continues to grow and delight game masters, adventurers and readers!
